Only offered at certain times throughout the year, the “Petite” Newborn Session is the perfect option for families who want gorgeous, professional images of their new addition, but who might be on a tighter budget, or who would prefer a shorter, more condensed session versus a Full-Length Newborn Session.
Hello, I’m Amber Webb! I have been an Olympia Newborn Photographer for 14+ years now! In this blog post I will explain exactly what a “Petite” Newborn Session looks like, and how it differs from booking a Full-Length Newborn Session with Amber Webb Photography…
What is a “Petite” Newborn Session?
Petite Newborn Sessions are 45 minutes long and baby is wrapped/swaddled for these sessions. If baby is super sleepy then we can attempt to pull some of their extremities out of the wrap, such as their hands or feet, but they will still remain partially-wrapped. These 45-minute sessions are meant for baby only, however there is an option to add-on a “family” portion if you’d like to include parents or siblings into some of your images. The family add-on will give you 15-minutes of added session time, totaling 1-hour. Baby will remain wrapped for the family portion as well.

How Many Images Are Included In a “Petite” Newborn Session?
For baby-only (45-min):
You will receive 8 fully-retouched high resolution digital images, delivered within 5-7 days after your session along with printing rights. With “Petite” Newborn Sessions the photographer selects the 8 images that you will receive, however you can make requests on what you’re hoping for ahead of time to help guide Amber’s decision-making when selecting those 8 images.
For baby + family (1-hour):
You will receive 10 fully-retouched high resolution digital images, as well as the 15-extra minutes of session time (totaling 1-hour). Again, with “Petite” Newborn Sessions the photographer will be selecting which 10 images you receive, but you’re welcome to make requests on what you’re hoping for with those 10 images, to help guide the photographer as she makes those 10 selections. For example, if you’d like 4 of your 10 images to be from the family photo portion, and 6 of the images to be of baby-only, you’d let Amber know ahead of time so that she selects the final 10 images according to your preferences.
Your Questions Answered….
Q: How Much Variety Can You Get In A Wrapped-Only “Petite” Newborn Session?
A: A good amount! Amber has a large variety of different wraps, layers, props, backgrounds, blankets, hats, & headbands, at her studio. She will discuss with you ahead of time what colors you like and any preferences you might have, and when you arrive to your session she will already have 4-5 different setups ready to go, based on those preferences you gave. That way once baby is wrapped they can be placed into each setup without too much disruption. Baby will have a base wrap that will not be removed, only the outer wrap will be swapped out in order to fit the color/theme of each setup, as well as their hat/headband can be changed to match each setup. So as you can see, we are still able to achieve a nice amount of variety in these mini newborn sessions, even with keeping baby wrapped the entire time.
Q: What If I Want More Time, More Images, Or More Intricate Posing?
A: If you’d like more images than 8-10, a longer session with more intricate posing that doesn’t always involve being wrapped, or if you want to be the one selecting which images you receive rather than the photographer selecting your images for you, then please consider booking a Full-Length Newborn Session instead of a “Petite” Newborn Session, as that will better meet your needs. Full-Length Newborn sessions can last 2-4 hours as they involve more intricate posing where baby is not always wrapped yet needs to be sleeping deeply in order to accomplish, therefore extra time is built in for soothing and feeding as needed. With Full-Length Newborn Sessions you will receive a proofing gallery after your session where you will be selecting your favorite images that you want to purchase. There are multiple package options available with Full-Length Newborn Sessions, so you can purchase as many images as you desire. You can read more about Amber’s Full-Length Newborn Sessions by going to the Menu here on her website and clicking on: Studio Newborns.
Q: How Old Should Baby Be For a “Petite” Newborn Session?
A: Baby should be under 6 weeks old for a petite newborn session. I prefer to schedule them after the 1-week old mark so that we can give you time to establish a feeding routine prior to your session!
Q: Where Does A “Petite” Newborn Session Take Place?
A: Just like with Full-Length Newborn Sessions, “Petite” Newborn Sessions are held at Amber’s professional studio in Olympia, WA
Q: You mentioned that “Petite” Newborn Sessions are only offered at certain times throughout the year. How do I know if they’re currently being offered?
A: To find out whether Amber Webb Photography is currently offering “Petite” Newborn Sessions at her Olympia studio, you can either reach out to her via the Contact Form here on her website to ask her directly, or you can click on the button below that says “Ready To Book” and see if the listing is active and available to book. The “Petite” Newborn Session listing will be hidden on Amber’s booking site during times when it is not available to book. At those times when it is hidden and not available to book, that means only Full-Length Newborn Sessions can be booked.
Q: What is the difference in pricing between a “Petite” Newborn Session and a Full-Length Newborn Session?
A: As you might expect, Petite Newborn Sessions are lower in overall price than Full-length Newborn sessions. There is more investment involved in a Full-Length Session for many reasons, such as: The session itself is more than twice the length, this allows more time for additional setups, more intricate/unwrapped posing, additional family posing, and in general a greater variety in the final images. With the Full-Length Session the client gets to select their favorite images from a proofing gallery and determine how many they want to purchase from their session. With the “Petite” Session there are a set amount of images that are delivered, and the photographer selects which images are delivered (although the client is welcome to give some general input on what they’re hoping for). To learn more about the pricing for “Petite” Newborn Sessions click on the button below that says “Ready To Book” which will take you to my booking site where pricing is explained in detail! (Half of the total session fee is due to book your petite session. The other half is paid 2 days prior to the actual session.). *Please Note: If the button below does not work that means that “Petite” Newborn Sessions are not currently being offered for booking, and only Full-Length Newborn Sessions can be booked at this time.
Q: Can I find out more about your upcoming availability before I book a “Petite” Newborn Session on your booking site?
A: Absolutely! Reach out to Amber via the Contact Form here on her website, or email her directly at: amberwebb82@icloud.com, if you have any questions whatsoever or would like to know more about what her upcoming availability looks like. “Petite” Newborn Sessions are easier to fit into her schedule than Full Length Newborn Sessions, so she can typically always find a time to get you in, especially if you are available on weekdays and not just weekends!
Q: I have a sentimental keepsake or family heirloom that I’d like to incorporate into my “Petite” Newborn Session, is that okay?
A: Of course! Just let Amber know ahead of time that you’ll be bringing a sentimental item so she can plan out how to incorporate it into your session.
