PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION QUESTIONS · OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON

The questions
before the photographs.

Booking, clothes, prices, timing and all the little things you’re wondering about. Here are some practical answers to help you plan newborn, maternity, family or wedding photography in Olympia and the surrounding area.

You can ask me the little questions, too.

How do I choose the right photography session?

Start with what you want to remember. Studio newborn sessions are styled with props and backdrops. Lifestyle newborn sessions take place in your home. Maternity sessions can be in the studio, outdoors or both. Family sessions range from private minis to longer sessions. If you’re still deciding, I’m happy to help.

When should I book newborn photographs?

Get in touch during pregnancy so we can discuss a due-date window. We’ll arrange the actual date after your baby arrives. Studio newborn photographs are ideally taken during the first three weeks; lifestyle sessions are often planned within the first month. If your baby is already here, ask anyway!

When should I have maternity photographs taken?

I usually recommend around 30–33 weeks, with plenty of time to plan earlier in pregnancy. We’ll talk about how you’re feeling, the setting you like and the wardrobe options. If you’re further along, send me a message and we can discuss availability.

What if my children don’t want to pose?

That’s a very normal thing to wonder about! We’ll choose a session length that suits your family and make room for their personalities. I’ll guide you during the session, and you can tell me in advance about anything that helps your children feel comfortable.

What should we wear?

Choose clothes you can move in and feel good wearing. We’ll discuss colors and styles once we’ve chosen your setting. My maternity client closet is available, and for other sessions I’ll help with preparation. You don’t need to figure it all out by yourselves.

Are digital photographs included in the booking fee?

For portrait sessions, the initial booking fee and your image purchase are separate. After the session, you’ll view a proofing gallery and choose your collection. Each service page shows its booking fee and starting image prices. Wedding collections have their own inclusions, so we’ll go through those together.

Do you photograph in Lacey, Tumwater and around JBLM?

Yes. I work from my Olympia studio and plan sessions around the surrounding area. The service area is a 50-mile radius from the studio. Tell me your actual location and the type of session, and I’ll explain the options and any travel costs.

What happens if the weather changes?

For outdoor family sessions, we can reschedule because of inclement weather without a weather-related rescheduling fee. We’ll stay in touch about the forecast. For other bookings, ask about the arrangements that apply to your session or event.

Can parents, siblings or our dog be included?

Tell me who you’d like in the photographs when we plan the session. Parents and siblings can be included in newborn and maternity photographs. Dogs can join family sessions with advance planning and a location that allows them.

What happens after the session?

For portrait sessions, you’ll receive a proofing gallery and select the photographs you’d like to purchase. I then finish the retouching on those selections by hand. We’ll explain the collection options, delivery timing and any payment plan before you commit.

STILL HAVE A QUESTION?

Let’s work it
out together.

Tell me a little about your people, your date or due date, and where you’re based. We’ll find a good starting point.
